New record (+22%) for UDRP domain disputes before WIPO

A growth deriving also from the greater number of people spending more time online, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic

The WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center recently confirmed an impressive overall increase of its domain name dispute workload in 2021.

As a matter of fact, the Arbitration Center located in Geneva received 5.128 cases which have been decided according to the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), a +22% as compared to the previous year. There is no doubt such considerable growth derives (also) from the greater number of people spending more time online, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.

Once again, the .COM still represents the most important gTLD extension, namely 75% of all WIPO's generic Top-Level Domain caseload. As for the Countries involved, among the over 130 countries the United States of America leads the way with 1.760 cases filed, before France (938), the United Kingdom (450), Switzerland (326), and Germany (251).

It is reasonable to expect a further increase for the current year, given the recent addition of .BH / البحرين. (Bahrain) and .SA / السعودية. (Saudi Arabia) to the UDRP system.
